Kelly Raspberry, PhD

I am a medical anthropologist turned yoga teacher who provides integrative sessions of vinyasa yoga, focused breathwork and mindful meditation. My teaching style is focused, individualized, and hands-on. Your sessions with me will take place in the convenience of your own home, enabling you to foster a greater awareness of your inner voice and how you can best connect with it in the specific environment that envelops you and shapes your life. I partner with you to discover the specific yoga and mindfulness practices that will inspire you to lead a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

I am passionate about the benefits of yoga, breathwork and meditation, and thus I recommend at least twice-weekly sessions to achieve your wellness potential. A consistent practice translates into a healthy, mindful lifestyle. My current clients have all been practicing with me at least twice a week for 2 to 3 ½ years. I understand that what you need from your session may vary from day to day. For this reason, I am never cookie-cutter, and you will always have the opportunity to share your expressed preference for the upcoming session’s intensity level (gentle, medium, strong, restorative) before I design your session. To ensure this, I customarily send a reminder and confirmation at least 24 hours prior to our meeting, and encourage clients to respond with requests for the next day’s session. The first session with me can include an optional home-evaluation to assist you in creating a calm, meditative yoga space in your home, which can help you to sustain your practice between sessions. Since personal space can be limited in major cities, my clients tend to find these home assessments surprisingly helpful.

Sessions can be 60, 75, or 90 mins.

My Philosophy

IMG_3805.jpg

As a PhD medical anthropologist, I have always been interested in how society and lifestyle choices impact our experiences and expectations of health and well-being. My research has examined how modern medical practices like genetic testing and reproductive technologies affect our understandings of our bodies, as well as how the intersection of cultural concepts of health and illness drive our actions and experiences. By 2014, grounded in my own long-standing yoga practice that began twenty years earlier, and emerging out of my scientific research and findings, I began to explore the lived reality of how individuals can achieve empowerment and change within themselves, apart from their societal context. As a result, I embarked on a new career path, one that honors and integrates three core passions that inspire me: a personal passion for self-empowerment through yoga and other wellness practices; an intellectual sensibility; and a love of teaching. Today, these three facets form the foundation of my specialty: an integration of dynamic alignment-based power vinyasa and restorative yoga, breathwork, and meditation.

Philosophy

Yoga Training

I am a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher and continuing education provider trained in dynamic-alignment power vinyasa yoga (E-RYT 200, YACEP). I specialize in a vinyasa style based on dynamic rather than standard alignment (i.e., modified for your body), with sequences that follow the Mayan calendar and cycles of nature and include extensive breathwork and restorative yoga practices (Skanda Yoga/Miami). My training includes completion of two YTT200 Programs (2014/Jason Lawner); (2015/Skanda/Anand (Ken) Von Roenn III). I have also served twice as assistant teacher and mentor for YTT200 programs (2017/Skanda).

As a life-long student always furthering my expertise, I’m currently pursuing my RYT 500 certification (YTT300 mid-way completed/Skanda). I practice what I teach: I am a daily practitioner of breathwork, meditation and a variety of vinyasa yoga styles.
